Food Program

Friends of the Shelter partners with the Lighthouse Mission of Bell County and the Middlesboro Elk's Club to provide supplemental dog and cat food to low income pet owners. Friends purchases the food from Food City in Middlesboro each month. It is taken by a volunteer to the Lighthouse Mission monthly food giveaway where it is distributed to pet owners who need a little help in feeding their pets. In 2025 FOS provided 180 bags of pet food to pets in need. The Elks Lodge applied for a special national grant to help with this program.
