Spay-Neuter is a SNAP!

There is no single solution to the problem of stray and homeless animals in Bell County, but any solution must include the spay or neuter of as many animals as possible. To help make that happen, Friends of the Shelter is beginning a new program to provide financial assistance to low-income pet owners.

The goal is to accomplish 100 spay-neuter procedures in 12 months through SNAP (Spay-NeuterAssistance Program). Working with local veterinary services (special thanks to Dr. Mark Watson and the Bell County Animal Clinic, and Dr. Mark Russel and Russell Veterinary Services), FOS has built the program to provide on support for pet owners who need their pets spayed or neutered. Here's how it works...

  • Each client completes SNAP application.  The SNAP program is for individual pet owners who need assistance in getting their pets spayed or neutered.
  • The client pays as much as they can afford of the cost of the spay/neuter surgery. Friends of the Shelter will pay any remaining expense for the operation, keeping in mind that the more each client pays, the more people we can help.

In addition, each animal will receive current vaccinations costing between $9.00 and $16.00, and paid for by the client. This means that the client will pay at least $9.00/animal, and then as much of the remaining cost of surgery as they desire.

FOS has received special grant funding to help support this program, and has already begun SNAP using donations targeted at our spay-neuter program. We wish to thank everyone who has already given a donation to support spay-neuter, helping to provide one of the most effective and humane solutions to animal overpopulation.
