"We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals."
- Immanuel Kant

The Bell County Animal Shelter is funded by the county to provide care for homeless or stray animals.  At this time the shelter has a  five-day legally required holding period for stray dogs over 6 months of age.  Approximately 28% of animals taken to the shelter in 2010 were adopted by new owners, but animal control remains the primary goal.

Here is Shelter Information, including a map, staffing and hours, and instructions for going to the shelter to drop off an animal or trying to adopt.

If you have a dog or cat that needs to go the shelter, here is some advice, some options, and some instructions.

Do you need a pet that needs you? Here's how to adopt a dog from the shelter.

If you want to see the adoptable animals but can't get to the shelter easily, you can take a look at the shelter's cats and dogs on      Petfinder.com.    These are updated regularly.

If you live outside Bell County, the Union County Humane Society and Claiborne County Animal Shelter in Tennessee have programs that deserve support.  It's the tri-state area, which means more choices!
