FOS Education

We at the FOS feel that education is the best way to make a difference in reducing the number of unwanted animals in Bell County.  To that end, we sponsor annual subscriptions to KIND News, the bi-monthly kids’ newspaper of the Humane Society of the United States. Every fourth-grade, and some primary grades, in Bell County receives this publication free of charge.

If you would like to help us in this endeavor, we do encourage personal sponsorships in the form of our “Adopt a Classroom” program. If you would like to pay for a subscription, either for a fourth grade class or for any other grade level, please contact our Education Coordinator, Martha Wiley, at Martha_Wiley@bellsouth.net.  The classroom will receive a certificate announcing your generous gift. The cost per classroom is just $22/year.

FOS will also supply a speaker to any civic or school group.  In addition, Charlotte Newland, and her dog Mollie, will travel to schools, nursing homes, and community groups to illustrate the basics of pet care and handling.  Nothing beats a hands-on experience for learning how to care for pets. Contact Martha Wiley if you would like to schedule a speaker.

Friends of the Shelter also has brochures on pet care, spay/neuter, and a variety of other topics courtesy  of the National Humane Education Society, that can be downloaded as needed.
