FOS helps with third RAM clinic held at LMU

248 dogs and cats belonging to low-income pet owners from KY, TN, and VA were spayed or neutered at the Remote Area Medical Veterinary Clinic held at Lincoln Memorial University on May 31 and June 1, 2008.

This was the third year that the 2 day veterinary clinic was held at the Veterinary Technology School at Lincoln Memorial University.  Mary Hatfield, Director of the LMU Veterinary Technology Program, reported that more dogs than cats were altered this year.  Nine veterinarians volunteered their time, including two local vets, Dr. Mark Smith of Knox Co. Veterinary Services in Barbourville, KY, and Dr. Randy Evans, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences at LMU.   According to Hatfield, 80 to 100 additional volunteers, including several FOS members, helped make the clinic a success.

Not only were the 248 dogs and cats spayed or neutered at no cost to their owners at the RAM Clinic, each pet received a rabies vaccination, courtesy of Fort Dodge Animal Health Corp.  Friends of the Shelter provided the funds necessary to make vaccinations for parvo-distemper and feline-distemper available to each pet.

The RAM Veterinary Clinic held at the Lincoln Memorial University Vet Tech School is the largest of all the RAM Veterinary Clinics in the U.S.
