Off the Press: What’s
new at the shelter |
Each June, with the help of Friends of the Shelter, the Bell
County Animal Shelter celebrates Adopt-A-Cat Month by reducing the
adoption fee on cats and kittens by one half. The lucky
cat adopter pays only $30.00, instead of the usual $60.00 adoption
fee, and still gets all the great veterinary services that always
accompany a shelter adoption, that is, a thorough exam at local
veterinarian, vaccinations, de-worming, and spay or neuter. FOS
makes this great promotion possible by paying the balance of the
fee for each adoption (the $60.00 adoption fee goes to pay the
veterinarian for their services).
June is traditionally a time when animal
shelters are overwhelmed with cats and kittens, and the Bell
County Animal Shelter is no exception. According to Jennifer
Nagle, Director of the Bell County Animal Shelter, “It is not
unusual for 10 to 20 cats and kittens to be brought into the
shelter in one day during the summer months. We are very
grateful to Friends of the Shelter for their help in getting as
many of these beautiful kittens and cats adopted as possible.”
Max's Pet Supply on Highway 33 in Tazewell, Tennessee, has also
been an Adopt-A-Cat Month supporter. Paul Dean and Denise
Adkins, owners of Max's Pet Supply, have opened their doors to
kittens from the Bell Co. Animal Shelter during June, adopting
five! Three gorgeous orange tabby male kittens remain at Max's
and FOS is extending the Adopt-A-Cat special on these kittens
only, so hurry!Students from Lincoln Memorial University’s Vet Tech and pre-vet
programs continue to visit the shelter, furthering a
cooperative relationship between the two. Currently LMU assists
with various medical and grooming procedures on an occasional
basis.
